STE MARY’S, MAIDSTONE TWP, BAPTISMS, MARRIAGES, BURIALS 1846 TO 1910
St. Mary’s Church, located in Maidstone Township, Essex County, Ontario, has a rich history dating back to the early 1840’s.ย Initially Catholic settlers in the area gathered in family homes.ย By 1842 a small log church was constructed on County Road 46, a brick church was built in 1845.ย St Mary’s was officially established as a parish in 1846.ย Construction of a new and larger brick church began in 1872 at Maidstone Cross, its current location.ย Over time, a parish cemetery, rectory and convent were added to the church grounds. The church has served as a focal point of the Maidstone community for over 175 years.
The volunteers of the Franco-Ontarian Research Center prepared indexes for each section: Baptisms, Marriages and Burials using copies of the Church Registers.ย These indexes are OCR’d and can be searched using CTRL F.ย The indexes give you the page number found on the top right-hand corner of the parish register. The file has 248 pages. The registers are hand-written and the copy is not always clear.ย Please contact us if assistance is required in reading some entries using this emailย address.
