Description

The roots of the parish trace back to 1814 when the first recorded Mass was celebrated in the home of Antoine Goyeau to honour local residents who perished in the War of 1812.  In 1834 a permanent mission was established and a log cabin church was erected , marking the formal inception of the St Jude Mission. In 1845 a permanent church was built and by 1869 the parish was officially named the Parish of St Simon and St Jude.

The volunteers at the Franco-Ontarian Research Centre transcribed (hand-written) the baptisms from the Baptismal Register of St Simon and St Jude Parish Church.  The file has 228 pages and includes an index.  Before making a purchase, please refer to the Church Indexes on the Franco-Ontarian webpage here.

As a member of the Essex County Branch of Ontario Ancestors, you can view the file in the Members Library under the Franco-Ontarian Research Centre tab.
