Description

“Vol. #4 Items From The Past Birth, Marriage and Death Notices from the Athens Reporter October 22, 1942 – December 16, 1949”. Leeds County and Grenville County.
The “ATHENS REPORTER” was a weekly newspaper printed in the Village of Athens, formerly known as Farmersville.
Athens is located in the Rear of Yonge and Escott Township, in Leeds County, Ontario.
Included in the newspaper, were various articles of the “social and district news”, where local reporters or correspondents captured various family celebrations, visits, births and deaths of it’s citizens.
On Friday July 9, 1948, the Scott family from the Gananoque Reporter purchased the Athens Reporter from the Young family.
After this purchase took place, the “social and district news” expanded to pick up areas nearer to Gananoque, including Lansdowne, Rockport and environs.
Volume 4 picks up where the first 3 volumes left off beginning in late October 1942 up to the end of 1949.
Compiled by Pat and Gerry Flood, Leeds and Grenville Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society.
