Google Maps for Migration, Brick Walls, and Organizing a Trip to Your Ancestor’s HomeĀ
We will use Google Maps to see where your ancestors walked, plot the migration of your ancestors, plot where your earliest known ancestor was located, and organize a trip.
This session will explain how to use Google Maps to
- see what is now in the location of an ancestorās home
- add these locations with stars and labels under your Google accountĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
- share these with other family membersĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
- plot the migration of ancestral familiesĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
- mark the location of your Earliest Known Ancestors to organize where your researchĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
- layout an ancestral trip by locating places to visit and the order to visit them such as homes and graveyards.
- Note: The map of the ancestral trip is Bruce County, Ontario. My earliest known ancestors in France, but I can include a map of Ontario. Migration comes into Ontario.

Lianne Kruger
Lianne Kruger, is a professional genealogist and speaker specializing in Canada, homesteading for the U.S. and Canada, video recording family history, and using technology in all aspects of genealogy. She is a member of the board and communication director for mitoYDNA.org. She is on the Ancestry.ca advisory board and is the webmaster, database, and social media chair for the Alberta Genealogical Society (AGS). She previously served six years as 1st VP of AGS and President of the Red Deer Branch. She earned the AGS Presidentās Award in 2020.Ā
She has earned a certificate and Associate degree in Family History from Brigham Young University Idaho. She earned a computer degree, has taught computer software courses since 1982, and is currently teaching for Red Deer College.Ā
Lianne is a frequent speaker at conferences and webinars including RootsTech, NGS, Legacy FamilyTree Webinars, FamilyRoots, THE Genealogy Show (UK), Ontario Ancestors, and BIFHSGO. She has had articles published in BYU Studies Quarterly, FamilySearch, Ancestry, LDSTech, SK Translations, ISBGFH, and AGS Relatively Speaking. Lianne is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, AGS, Ontario Ancestors, and National Genealogical Society.Ā
