Description

Canning Cemetery was located on the Canning family farm on the east half of Lot 6, Concession 6, Markham Township – now the City of Markham. It was on the north side of 14th Avenue, east of Kennedy Road, at the end of Edgecombe Drive.

A large marker commemorates the family of John Canning who emigrated from Ireland in 1819. In 1990, the marker and remains were removed to Eckardt Cemetery on McCowan Road north of 14th Avenue.

The transcription, published in 1993, is 5 pages long and consists of a short history, a photo, the marker inscription and directions on how to find it in its new location.
