Description
Christ Church Cemetery is located at the north east corner of Yonge Street and the Mount Albert Road in the town of Holland Landing, near the east bank of the Holland River.ย ย The land for the cemetery and the church was part of the south west acreage of town Lot 107, Concession 1E (east of Yonge Street) which was part of the property which had been owned by Peter Robinson.ย The cemetery is administered by the Christ Church Anglican Cemetery Board.
Chosen in 1792 by John Graves Simcoe as an ideal shipping and defense post between York and Penetang, the ancient canoe “landing place” on the Holland River was, with the completion of the Yonge Street land link in 1795, a significant water and land crossroads.ย The “upper landing” designated lot 110 became the site of the village of Beverly, soon to be renamed Holland Landing.
The transcription, published in 1995, is 35 pages long and consists of a short history and photographs in addition to the inscriptions.
