Description

Reupard’s Settlement Pioneer Burying Ground is located on the west half of Lot 16, Concession 3, Vaughan Township, now the City of Vaughan. It’s on Rutherford Road east of Keele Street.

In 1839, Peter Rupert (Reupard) deeded land for a Methodist chapel and burial ground. Rupert’s Chapel opened in 1840 and was used until 1870 when the congregation built a new church in Maple.  In 1966, the Township of Vaughan restored the burial ground placing the markers on a stone cairn.

The transcription, published in 1990, is 8 pages long and includes a brief history, a photo, the inscriptions and an index.
