Description

Elmwood Cemetery is located the west part of Lot 11, Concession 8, in the City of Markham. It’s on the north side of Highway 7, about 0.5 km east of Highway 48 (Markham Road).

Lot 11 was purchased in 1805 by Joseph Reesor. In 1904, the west part of the lot was sold to the congregation of the Methodist Church. Some stones in the cemetery date from the 1830’s; grave markers moved here from a Methodist burial site on Highway 48. The markers original to Elmwood Cemetery date from the early 1900’s.

The transcription, published in 2009, is 145 pages long and consists of a short history, maps, the inscriptions and an index.
