Description
The Pioneer Burying Ground is located on part of Lot 93, Concession 1E, in the Town of Newmarket. It is situated on the north side of Eagle Street midway between Yonge St. and downtown Newmarket. It is also known as the Eagle Street Cemetery or St. Paul’s Anglican Church Cemetery.
The cemetery came into use in the early 19th century as a non-denominational burying ground. In 1863, ownership passed to St. Paul’s Anglican Church. The gravestones have been gathered into the centre of the cemetery.
The transcription, published in 1989, is 22 pages long and includes a short history, a map, the inscriptions and an index.
