Description

St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery is located on Lot 13, Concession 4, Markham Township, now the City of Markham. It’s on the east side of Woodbine Avenue north of Highway 7 in Buttonville. It’s situated behind the community hall and is not readily visible from the road.

About 1820, land for a church and cemetery was donated by Captain John Schultz, one of the Berczy settlers. There is no longer a church on site. The earliest marker dates from 1820, the most recent marker dates from 1939. The cemetery is well maintained and administered by the City of Markham.

The transcription, published in 1992, is 18 pages long and consists of a short history, photos, a map, the inscriptions and an index.
