Description

Box Grove Church Cemetery is located on the east half of Lot 6, Concession 8, in Markham Township – now the City of Markham. It is on the north side of 14th Avenue west of the 9th Concession Road in the community of Box Grove. Box Grove was called Sparta until 1867.

By 1850, an Episcopal Methodist congregation had built a church and burial ground on this site.  The present white frame church was built in 1877. The cemetery is well maintained and, as of the date of the transcription, was still active.

The transcription, published in 1993, is 14 pages long and includes a short history, photos, a map, the inscriptions and an index.
