Description
Hagerman West Cemetery is located on Lot 6, Concession 5, Markham Township, now the City of Markham. It’s on the west side of Kennedy Road just north of 14th Avenue.
Nicholas Hagerman, one of the Berczy settlers, owned the land and used this site as a family burial ground. The earliest marker dates from 1819. In 1849, a Wesleyan Methodist church was built adjacent to the cemetery and the cemetery was opened to members of the congregation. Today only the cemetery remains and, as of the transcription publication date, was still active.
The transcription, published in 1993, is 18 pages long and consists of a short history, photos, a map, the inscriptions and an index.
