Description

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is located on part of Lot 12, Concession 3 in the City of Vaughan.  It’s on the east side of Keele Street north of Langstaff Road. Founded in 1811, it is the fourth oldest continuous Lutheran congregation in Canada.

This transcription of the church registers contains:

Births from 1808 to 1955 – information includes names of child and parents, date of birth, baptism date and names of godparents or sponsors.

Marriages from 1852 to 1949 – information varies but could include bride and groom names and ages, residence and birthplace of each, marriage date, and names of witnesses.

Burials from 1819 to 1949 – information includes name, age, date of death, cause of death if known, and any notes found in the registers.

An appendix lists names from memorials, windows and plaques.

The registers are fully indexed. The transcription, published in 1998, has an extensive history of the church and is 192 pages long.
