Description

St. John Chrysostom Cemetery is located on Lots 97 and 98, Concession 1E in the Town of Newmarket. The address is 250 Main Street North, on the west side, north of Davis Drive.

There had been a Catholic cemetery (St. Mary’s) closer to downtown Newmarket. The first burial here was recorded in 1834.  However, by 1872 the cemetery had become crowded and so a new burying ground was established further north. St. John Chrysostom was consecrated in May 1874. The remains of those buried at St. Mary’s were moved to the new site.

The transcription, published in 1996, has 134 pages and includes a short history, a map, the inscriptions and an index.
